Ryan Hemsworth – Proto (2013)

Most games today are stuck on their high powered systems, online connectivity, wireless controllers, and movie-like cut scenes. Well, they don’t know what the true era of gaming was really like. During the system wars between Nintendo and Sega during the nineties a slew of amazing games out out with their MIDI-powered songs and sound effects. Well, one composer Yasunori Mitsuda has become known for his famous compositions in video games such as Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Xenosaga, and many others. Indie label Lefse Records has taken it upon themselves to pay a hip-hop tribute to the man with their upcoming release MITSUDA. And beat maker Ryan Hemsworth is on the upcoming compilation with his track “Proto.” The synths completely take you back to those epic pixel driven RPG’s and their swooping plots. The beats make the track even more encapsluating and long for that good ole days when video games were about the games and not the graphics. [Source]
