This falls outside of the “normal” purview of Disco Potential, but Ellie Herring is a friend of the staff and she makes interesting electronic music. Every release she’s put out has pushed her in some new direction in an unpretentious way. Even if the structure “Dead at Night” builds and breaks down in a fairly formal way, adding elements and removing them like clockwork, the sounds she’s using make this feel like it’s from a different time, something that belongs in a Paolo Bacigalupi novel.
